Operator guide
How to run a match on the console: setting up, scoring, putting graphics on air, and what to do when something goes wrong. The console's ? key shows the keys at any time.
Before you go live
About fifteen minutes. You need a laptop with Chrome, the console's address and access key (from whoever runs the system), and the encoder: a YoloBox, OBS or vMix.
- Open the console and enter the access key. Open Setup, paste the key into Access key. A red banner across the top means the key is missing or wrong; it disappears once the server accepts it. The key lets a device change what's on air, so don't share it.
- Choose the look. Setup → Look. On one of the house looks, the Brand kit below it puts the client's colours, font and logo on every graphic. If the two colours clash, the console tells you.
- Add the sponsors. Setup → Sponsors: type a name, Add, then Upload its logo. A sponsor stays off air until it has a logo. The switches above the list choose where sponsors appear.
- Set up the match. New match (top right): teams, their colours, the players, the format, how much to score (see Scoring levels), who serves first and the look. The scorebug and lower third are previewed as you type. Nothing goes on air until you start it. No team names (a club or open event)? Choose Named by: Players: each side is then its players' surnames, like HARTLEY / MOORE, and the Player names on the graphics switch adds their full names underneath.
- Put the graphics into the encoder. Setup → Overlay URLs → Combined copies one address that carries every graphic. Add it to the encoder as a browser source (YoloBox: a web overlay) at 1920×1080. On a YoloBox it fits the 1280×720 overlay by itself. Then check the Output light at the top of the console: green Output live means the encoder is showing the graphics and is up to date.
- Courtside scoring on a phone (if someone is scoring at the court). Setup → QR codes and scan the scorer code with their phone. That link carries the access key: give it only to your scorer. Desk and phone can both score; a point is never counted twice. The same page has a Graphics tab (see Graphics from a phone).
- Live scores for the audience (optional). The second QR code opens the public live-scores page, which needs no key. It can be printed (Print it) or put on the organiser's website (Embed code).
During the match
Scoring
- The two big POINT keys (or 1 and 2) score for each team. Z undoes the last point.
- The scorebug's bar shows live alerts by itself: break point, set point, match point, the tiebreak.
- If the phone scorer and the desk both press for the same point, the second press is refused and the phone says so: "The score changed at the desk — your last point wasn't added." Look at the score, and press again only if the point is missing.
- Score wrong? Fix score unlocks the scoreboard so you can correct it. Each fix is one Undo; Esc locks it again.
Graphics
Each graphic has a tile with its preview and a cut button. Press a key to put it on air, and again to take it off:
- O Scorebug
- C Stat card
- S Story strip
- V Matchup
- L Lower third
- B Board (full frame)
- H Save a highlight
- ? Help: every key
- Stat card. The scorebug steps aside while the card is up and comes back after. Match stats or Last set chooses what it shows.
- Lower third. One slot at the bottom of the screen. Its switch chooses what it shows: a story (one head-to-head stat), the match (teams and players), your own text (commentators, a result), or the matchup.
- Stats panel (right). Click a row to put that stat on air; click again to take it off. Rows marked Bar show as words under the scorebug, the rest beside it. 8s shows a stat for eight seconds.
- Your own words on the bar: type them in the box under Live alerts and switch it on.
- Board: a full-frame slate: the event (Starts 9.30am) or who's coming up next.
Graphics from a phone
The phone scorer's Graphics tab, at the bottom of its screen, cuts the same graphics as the desk: the scorebug, the lower third (story, match, text or matchup), the stat card, the board and any uploaded graphics. It can also put a stat on the bar under the scorebug. Tap a graphic to put it on air, and again to take it off. The rules are the desk's: the scorebug steps aside for the stat card, and the lower third shows one thing at a time.
- A small monitor at the top shows what's on air, and the line under it names it. A red dot on the tab means something is on air.
- A cut from the phone shows on the desk at once, and a cut at the desk shows on the phone. Whoever cuts last wins.
- Graphics never touch the score, so a phone cutting graphics can't disturb the scoring.
Scoring levels
Choose one in New match, or change it in Setup → Scoring. Each level records more than the one before, on the desk and on the phone alike.
- Points. Just the two keys. The serving team changes by itself. Pick this for a volunteer scorer.
- Servers. Also which player serves. A row over the point keys asks "Who's serving for HARTLEY / MOORE?" at each team's first serve of a set: tap the player. After that it follows the serving order by itself. If it's wrong, tap the partner (one Undo). Each player's service games and points then appear in the stats.
- Full stats. Also how each point ended, on a court. Each half is in the colour of the pair at that end, and the colours swap when the pairs change ends. The four players stand where each point starts, the server with the ball by their name. After the point, tap ✓ (a winner) or ✕ (an error) under the player who ended it. That one tap gives the point to the right side and records how. Each button is in the colour of the pair it gives the point to. The players then move to the next point's spots: the server changes sides every point, the serve passes each game, and the pairs change ends after odd games.
+ Point at each end of the court is that pair's point with no detail (a forced error, a net cord). Under the court are the server's Ace and Double fault, and Undo. The rest is under ⋯: marking the last error as forced, a golden point's receiver (the receiving pair chooses), swapping a pair's sides, and turning the court round to match your view. On the desk, Forced appears by itself after an error.
Who's serving: at each pair's first serve of a set, their names are underlined and a row above the court asks who's serving: tap the name. After that the court follows the serving order. Tap the partner's name to fix it.
On the desk, every button has a key, shown on it. The keys mirror the court: 3 4 5 6 are the far pair's ✓ and ✕, left to right, and E R T Y the near pair's. 1 and 2 are the + Point strips, A is Ace, D Double fault and F Forced. Change any of them in Setup → Hotkeys.
Set it up once: in New match the first player box is the left-side player and the second the right. Hold the phone sideways for a side-on view of the court.
Servers and Full stats work best with the players' names: add them in New match or Teams & players. Without names the court shows Left and Right. An ace counts as a winner too.
Between matches
- New match sets up the next one. The finished match is kept automatically, with its stats and highlights.
- Matches lists every match kept. Restore one if the wrong match was started, or download its spreadsheets.
When something goes wrong
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Red banner: "The server is rejecting changes" | The access key is missing or wrong. Tap the banner and paste the key again. |
| Red banner: "Changes aren't reaching the server" | The venue's internet has dropped. Keep scoring: the console holds your changes and sends them when the connection is back. Until then the graphics on air may be behind. |
| Red banner: "Not connected to the server yet" | The console opened while the server was out of reach, so it is showing this browser's last copy. Wait for the banner to go before you score or cut: anything done before then is replaced by the server's copy when it answers. |
| Top light amber Reconnecting…, or red Server lost | The console's live link has dropped. It keeps retrying on its own. Changes from the phone won't appear here until it's back. |
| Output light red: No output | The encoder isn't showing the graphics. Check the browser source has the Combined address, then reload it in the encoder. |
| Output light amber: Output behind | The encoder's graphics are behind the console. They catch up by themselves within a few seconds. If the light stays amber, reload the browser source. |
| Graphics cut off on the YoloBox | Use the Combined address. It scales itself to the box's 1280×720. |
| A sponsor or the client's logo isn't showing | It has no logo file yet, or the file didn't upload. Upload it again in Setup. |
| The phone's Graphics tab says "Not sent yet — retrying" | The phone has lost signal. It keeps trying for a few seconds. A cut it still can't send is dropped, so it never lands on air late, and the phone says "Cut not sent": cut it again when the signal is back. Check the monitor above it. |
| The phone scorer asks for the access key | The key was changed. Scan the scorer QR code again from Setup → QR codes. |
| The wrong match was started | Matches → the match → Restore. |
After the event
Matches keeps every match. For each one you can download the points (every point, with the score and how it ended), the stats, and the highlights with their match times for the edit.
